Thursday night, Annie and I had just gotten home from the airport (we travel by plane every week for work, different states though). The two of us and our roommate Ashley waited for our friend Ryan to arrive - he was flying in from New York to spend the weekend in Chicago. We made reservations at Cafe Ba-Ba-Reeba! for 9pm, since that was the earliest availability. Note: Reservations are a THING in Chicago so make sure you schedule them in advance or you'll never get a table before 9pm - on a Thursday. Friday and Saturday nights, don't expect to be seated before 10 without a reservation. I know this because it's happened to me several times before.
Our friend Ellen (also vegetarian) joined us for dinner as well. This worked out well because Annie, myself, and Ellen could share our plates together. We started out with the Brussel Sprout Salad with marcona almonds and manchego cheese. The brussel sprouts are thinly sliced and very soft; good for sharing between two people. I've been to Cafe Ba-Ba-Reeba! before and one of my favorite dishes is the Spicy Potatoes with Tomato Alioli, or as Ryan likes to call it, Patatas Bravas (pictured as the second image). This is kind of a starter dish. I love the tomato alioli paired with the patatas! The potatoes are soft on the inside, but the potato skin is slightly crispy - cooked just right! I could eat these patatas all DAY. Forreal. And for our entree, the three of us shared theFarmer's Market Vegetable Paella. If you plan to order this, make sure you tell the waiter when you put in your appetizer orders - the paella takes ~30 minutes to cook. The paella is priced per serving, and the minimum is two servings. Annie, Ellen and I shared two servings among the three of us, and let me tell you - it was MORE than enough. It was my first time eating Cafe Ba-Ba-Reeba!'s vegetable paella and it was really delicious! I will likely be ordering it again next time I dine there. The different vegetables in the paella included cauliflower, zucchini, green beans, and several others.
We ordered three desserts to share. The Natilla Flan, Caramelized Banana, and the Chocolate Truffle Cake. Of the three, the flan seemed to be the favorite among the crowd though all desserts were delicious.
