7 Fort Lane,
Auckland 1010, New Zealand
What a hidden gem! After walking to Shortland Cafe (see blog in Sydney section) and realizing it was closed for the day, our friend Christine found Imperial Lane on Yelp(?).. not sure, but she found it somewhere online, so we decided to give it a try! If I remember correctly, it was located in an alley, and looked like an entrance to a garage! It has a bit of a hipster vibe, is extremely spacious inside with brick walls and heated lamps, and the best part is, there are a number of vegetarian options (yaassss!!!). This was our first brunch, and probably my favorite brunch place that we ate at in Auckland.
Both of what Annie and I ordered were delicious! I think we both were surprised at how tasty our dishes were. The soft poached egg on the Mushroom Toast was just such a bonus for us. You know how I love my yolky eggs!! I got so excited when I cut the egg and the yolk oozed out!! The mushrooms were soft but textured... the truffle cream and soft onions with balsamic drizzled on top.... MMM!!! I AM SALIVATING just THINKING about this!! At first sight, I thought the Columbian Eggs were beautifully plated but wasn't sure how they would taste. Not to my surprise, it was very special! I've had nothing like it before! Scrambled eggs are basic, but these eggs sat on top of a layer of avocado and tomato salsa, which sat on top of a bed of crispy, spiced polenta. Now, I thought that was special.
The latte was just what I needed to start off the morning. If I were to ever visit Auckland again, I am definitely coming back here! I mean it!
