Sunda is an Asian Fusion restaurant, which is not a place I would typically try. When I moved away from LA, I basically stopped eating Asian food (because no where else can you find Asian food comparable to LA's!!). Asian food anywhere else is overpriced and not as authentic. When I go home to LA, all I eat is Asian food, and when I leave, I try other cuisines.
This place has a very chill, relaxed ambiance. My friends and I came for Sunday brunch and the interior is massive. It's very rare in Chicago to see such a spacious restaurant. I was actually very impressed with the Bang! Bang! salad. My sister and I love Thai papaya salads and thought we'd give this a shot. The flavors were very vibrant and flavorful, just what I like in a papaya salad! The crunch from the toasted nuts and jicama contrasted well with the soba noodles, mango and zucchini. The dressing was tangy and the mint and basil added great flavor too. Definitely a stand out dish and very refreshing for the summer. The Tempura French Toast was something I've never tried before. The brown sugar glaze, bananas and fresh berries tasted great with the walnuts and tempura battered french toast. However, this dish was a bit too sweet for me, but Ellen would love it!
Sunda was cool and fun to try, but they probably won't be seeing me again.
